The history of the economic environment has proven, without doubt, the necessity of the existence of an institution of the caliber of the Chamber of Commerce, which represents the interests of the business environment. The abolition of the feudal regime, characterized by the lack of legislation and, implicitly, the absence of a guarantee regarding the respect of the rights of Romanian merchants, and the removal of Ottoman sovereignty, led to the emancipation of production and trade. The reformation of Romanian society during the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza also targeted the socio-demographic categories related to the market economy. These were propelled and structurally anchored by a new, modern institution, validated by the capitalist evolution of the West, the chambers of commerce and industry. These modern institutions can be considered as the levers that, among others, totally oriented the Romanian economy towards Western commercial flows for almost eight decades following 1864, the year of the establishment of the Chambers of Commerce. The Arad Chamber of Commerce did not have an easy path in the development stage of its very concept. The people of Arad have always been known as people with initiative, who fought for their interests. Thus, through the efforts of the locals and through the insistence of the Ministry of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, in 1871, the Arad Chamber of Commerce came into being. The achievements of the organization in Arad were not at all left in the shadows. The Chamber of Commerce of Arad had, throughout its entire activity, its own initiatives in order to solve economic problems. The turbulent period between the two world wars also disrupted the interests of the chambers of commerce, including the one in Arad. Par excellence, the Chambers of Commerce around the world are a symbol of the market economy, and their autonomy means the very economic freedom of each participant in creating the Commercial landscape, in the broadest sense. That is why, after the Second World War, when the economic conditions in Romania changed and the command economy was established, these institutions were abolished, no longer in accordance with the period up to the events of December 1989. In Arad, the first steps for the re-establishment of the Chamber of Commerce were taken quickly, so that, on May 25, 1990, the general assembly of the founders of the Chamber of Commerce took place, after the revolution. Today, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Arad county represents the interests of over 58,000 economic companies in the county. One of the Chamber's priorities was the organization of fairs and exhibitions. In 1925, the Arad Chamber of Commerce already organized, according to the standards of the great fairs of the time, a general fair called "Arad Sample Fair". The participation of approximately 250 companies in this fair represents a record even for today. From October 1990, the Arad Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, together with the Arad City Hall, organized the first fair, an autumn fair for consumer goods, and in 1991 there was already a department specialized in organizing fairs and exhibitions. In 1993, the Arad Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture invested in the exhibition structure and started organizing thematic fairs. Due to the increase in the level of services offered, the target market has increased from a national area to an international one. Exploiting any space in Arad that could host a fair, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Arad County established its events at the Arad Sports Hall, which offered the largest indoor and outdoor space acceptable for organizing fairs and exhibitions . 1998 was the first year in which the space reached its dimensional limit, 80 interior stands which were already insufficient. Proving its long-term strategic thinking, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Arad county created, from its own resources, the first exhibition pavilion with an area of 1,500 square meters, in 2002. Since 2004, CCIA ARAD, through the fairs and exhibitions department, has become a full member of the CENTREX association – the top organization in the exhibition industry in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2005, the second exhibition pavilion was inaugurated, built with European Phare funds, after which the interior surface increased to over 3,000 square meters, and the exterior surface to over 12,000 square meters. The conditions offered by the Expo Arad exhibition complex, as well as the actions we are undertaking in order to consecrate it as a Euroregional fair complex, have started to yield results, the exhibition events organized so far being appreciated by the exhibiting companies and visitors. At the end of 2012, the Arad Chamber of Commerce, as part of a Romania-Hungary cross-border project, completed its third investment, the central multifunctional Pavilion, which has a usable area of 2,500 square meters. Following the expansion of the Expo Arad complex, it has 4,250 MP indoor exhibition area, 20,000 MP outdoor area. In almost 20 years of activity, the EXPO Arad department has annually organized dozens of fairs and exhibitions and hundreds of private events, managing to permanently consolidate its position and receiving recognition for everything it does. Proving seriousness and professionalism, EXPO ARAD managed to organize, in a not easy economic context, international events that have become established and are landmarks for many successful businesses. AGROMALIM, AR-MEDICA, TRANSPORT-AR, ECOMEDIU, DREAM PARTIES, CONFORT CONSTRUCT & INSTALL or GARDENIA, whatever the profile and field of the event, every company finds in Expo Arad an honest, open partner and ready to offer complete solutions so that the presence at the event can be found in the subsequent success of the business. Today, more than ever, we need an active structure that supports the local and regional economy and that is the gateway to the market economy, to the European market, but also to the progress of each society. The evolution of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Arad county felt, over time, the impact of the great events in the history of Romania, but also the influence of the main phenomena that happened in the world economic system. A reference name within the chamber system in the country and a representative institution for economic agents in the county thanks to the actions, proposals and interventions undertaken over time, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Arad County continues the history written in over a century of existence.
