Professional days: September 18, 19 and 20, 2024 Press day: September 17, 2024 Artistic director : Isabelle Bertolotti Guest curator : Alexia Fabre Entitled "The voices of the rivers Crossing the water ", the 17th edition of the Lyon Biennale invites artists to evoke, question and pursue the subject of the relationships which are formed and untied between beings and with their environment. For this project, we draw on the natural and human geography of the territory as well as on the spirit of the new locations of the Biennale, the Grandes Locos and the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie. These sites, of which macLYON is the most historically linked to the Biennale, are crossed by the question of relationships and the reception of others. They embody history, diversity, the invention of community practices. Their walls, which still bear the traces of those who worked, lived and lived there, summon rituals of conviviality and ways of being and doing together. The artists make the unique voices of these places resonate, their stories and their social characteristics. These places of construction and repair, of care and hospitality, of attention to others reveal as many destinies as forms of relationships, traditional, invented, hoped for. If otherness is sometimes a risk, we think that it is a necessary risk, the chance of discovery, the salt of life. Rivers and streams carry these stories of exchanges and encounters, of rare products such as salt, of conquests and discoveries, of dual stories, where the relationship with the other can take varied turns and detours, from the contestation at the confluence. The hope to claim is the space for debate and self-invention among and with others.
