A place where innovation, design, technology and Made in Italy have met for over 60 years. 1962 The Genoa Boat Show is born The Genoa Boat Show was born on 27 January 1962. It is the exhibition of Italian pleasure boating and the only Italian show that is part of the international circuit. In Genoa, in 1956, the Genoa Fair Authority was born, with the mandate of organizing "trade fairs for activities linked to maritime, river and lake communications, air communications and telecommunications" . The president of the Fair is Giuseppe De Andrè, father of the singer-songwriter Fabrizio De Andrè, and he had also held the position of deputy mayor of the city in the past. As regards the Show, the need to build the Fair pavilions is emerging so that the Boat Show can be created. The construction of the pavilions began in 1959. The works proceeded quickly and on 27 January 1962 the 1st Boat Show opened . 430 exhibitors from 18 countries participate. In detail, there were 254 Italians and 176 foreigners (including the English, at the time the world point of reference with the London Boat Show). The boats are displayed in the pavilions. In the Darsena there is only one motoryacht from Cantieri Picchiotti of Viareggio, a 14.50 meter long Giannutri. She is the only boat to float as the exhibitors are reluctant to put the boats in the water: in their opinion the boats would get dirty in the water, and seen from the dock the boats seem smaller. Instead, perched on their sockets, they appear very large. Sailing boats, with the Alpa and its fiberglass hulls, from the small Flying Junior to the Alpa 8; motor boats, with Italcraft hulls, a shipyard founded in 1955 and always dedicated to speed; the first inflatable boats, which some called soft boats, branded Pirelli, Gamma, Zodiac. However, this edition marked a starting point and since then the Nautico has continued to stand out as an event not to be missed for enthusiasts. For the second edition, in 1963, in addition to pavilion C, the recently completed pavilion B was also occupied. READ EVERYTHING Some numbers to summarize the journey made from 1962 to today. The 30 thousand square meters of the exhibition center of the first Boat Show and the 430 exhibitors are today significantly contrasted by an exhibition area of over 200 thousand square meters between land and water and the presence, in the 63rd edition held in 2023, of over 1,000 boats and 1,043 brands on display and 118,269 visitors. And it is constantly evolving, with an eye on a future that is already upon us: the works for the new Levante Waterfront, designed by Renzo Piano, will lead to the creation of a large and innovative Genoa International Boat Show with a spectacular layout , functional and scenographic, which will guarantee 150 more berths, navigable canals, new docks and a completely renovated Palasport, greater international level exhibition spaces and expanded and renewed services. Numbers that trace the path, not always easy, in crescendo, of the 63 editions of the Boat Show, with an eye towards the future and increasingly oriented towards making Genoa the city of boating and its excellence.
